Not sure where to put this, so feel free to move this to whichever forum it belongs in.

I have an email list going on my site. I'm using a basic form that people fill out and then I go and manually enter their name and email on a list in my address book. But the problem is that I only send out an email to the people on my list every couple months, so people forget they're on my list and keep adding themselves to the list multiple times. I thought about putting the list of people on my site, but then thought that would infringe on their privacy. So, I was thinking maybe I could add a search box on the bottom of the page, where people could enter their name in the box and it will tell them if they are on the list or not. Is this possible? Or does someone have a better idea about how to stop people from signing up on my email list multiple times?

If you use the search box idea, it will still interfere with others privacy because their email address would still be on your site somewhere. I would recommend signing up with a third party to handle your email list. That way, users cannot signup twice with the same email address. I would recommend you use a free service like:
yourmailinglistprovider (search google to find it)

Good luck with your list!

You need to implement a membership system, such as a forum software package as they usually have an email newsletter option. If that is overkill, there are scripts available but you'll need one that flags duplicates.
