Visitors using broad band.

is it possible to detect this?

Ive recently switched to broadband, dunnno why but a thought occured to me today (make a not your bloggs) can a site detect broadband as opposed to dial up?

if thats the case and you can then how about setting up two identical sites the and one refers you to teh other upon entry, depending on what your set up is.

good idea or not?

There was a similar (short) thread a while ago - Redirect based on connection speed [webmasterworld.com]

I would assume it's possible using a timer to see how long it takes to download a file (I've seen it done in flash). However, it would seem to be a fairly unreliable test, so my opinion would be that giving the visitor the choice is probably the best idea. You wouldn't want to accidentally send visitors to the wrong version.
