Hi,
My qustion deals with windows OS and is only indirectly related to web.

I am trying to automate some tasks
for example I would like to automatically process an email and if it is a job offer send my cv

What program would you suggest?
The program should be able to process the text in the email and simulate keystrokes. something like the old recorder in win 3.4 but programmable.

In other words, you want a "smart macro", right? I can program that sort of thing in WordPerfect.... don't know about in Word or other MS programs. Hmmm. Have you looked at the Scheduled Tasks applet? I'm not sure how flexible it is - don't use it for anything myself....

Hi vkaryl,
What I need is a bit more than a macro.
May be a macro for outlook express that processes emails from a job bank and finds email address, customizes a form letter head and attaches my cv to a reply.
I have never used visual basic, but I think it fits the bill. Does it?

You can do pretty much anything with Visual Basic. Do you really get so many job offers that you want to automate the response? Anyway,

You could start here

[microsoft.com...]

Also check out the
VBA language Reference
[msdn.microsoft.com]

Open this in, what else? IE only, click on the "synch toc" link, wait forever, and then navigate to the section on Outlook.

Hi ergophobe,
Much obliged. I have a profile in a job bank that sends me emails when a job offer matches. And yes, I get quite a few every day. But my applications never lead to an interview.;)

Far be it from me to give job advice, but I think instead of autmoating your response, you should throw away the ones that are not good matches and take some time to customize your resume for the jobs that you really want.

Hi ergophobe,
Advice taken. Don't want to through this post way, way off topic. But just a closing note: I live in Quebec and do not speak French.
Now I will persue your links.

Thanks again.
