Spamcop's statistics [alpha.cesmail.net] show that the number of spammails reported to them has dropped consistently during the last couple of weeks. Of course those statistics do not tell everything about what happens on the Internet, but my guess would be that they are sufficiently realistic to actually mirror the general tendencies.

Does anybody know about any evidence to either support or contradict the tendencies in those statistics?

FWIW, my own personal experience with spammail does NOT mirror this. I'm getting a few more a day than I did a week ago, and that was a few more a day than the week before. Today (Sunday!) I had 25 when I got home and online at 3:30. I used to get only 5 or so on Sunday.

An average day now drops around 75 into 4 different mail accounts. As I said elsewhere, thank goddess for mailwasher.

a few hundred a day, every day (courtesy of my addy having vacationed in addy books on a few compromised computers.)

I think I might have long since abandoned my favorite free addy, but along came the filter and the bulk mail folder. It ain't mailwasher, but it's more than minimally functional and that's nuthin'to sneeze at.
