Not sure if its virus or power connection problem

Ive been having problems with my computer a lot lately. I believe I had a variant to the blaster worm a few months ago because my computer would shut off (maybe once every other day). --- Not too often. Usually before it shut off, an error message would appear "generic host 32" then allow me 60 seconds to close my programs.

Now, my computer shuts off all the time WITHOUT WARNING. The longer it is on the more it shuts off. I am thinking it may be some kind power cord/connection problem. Do you all think it could be another worm or a power supply problem? By the way, I have Norton Anti-Virus and used other anti-virus programs. If it is a power supply problem, what do you think I need? (I own a Compaq)

Thanks,
Jeremy

It could be any number of things, but one common thing that I've seen that makes computers spontaneously reboot without warning is a dead CPU fan. If you open the case and boot the computer, you should be able to see if the CPU fan is spinning o not. If it's not, your CPU is porbably overheating and causing the machine to reboot itself when it gets too hot. These aren't a big deal to fix and should be pretty cheap.

Again, that's just something that I've seen a bunch of times. Doesn't mean that's your problem, just one sugestion.

I believe you have the MS blaster worm virus....do a search on symantec's site in the security response section and read about how to get rid of it. You need to install a patch, activate a firewall, then run the tool...it's not that bad.

I downloaded the patch before for that virus, but it could not find it. Maybe it is a different virus that is not that common.

Ill check the fan when I get home. My old roommate's computer used to do the same thing. Not sure what he replaced though....and anyway his computer was old....mine is only year old, but that isnt saying much.
