i am using Fluid Dynamics site search and have run into a problem when crawling. I have it installed on two sites....when I try to run a crawl on one of the sites, it doesn't follow on-page links for some reason and I fail to see what I have set up differently on that site. The results page says "No embedded links were found during this crawl session." when it is blatantly untrue....

On the other site, it crawls that page and lists, with checkboxes at the bottom of the page, all the links it found and you can select to index those pages or not.

I have used that product a few times and that is not a problem I have come across.

In my experience however when I have found issues slightly like this - in completely unrelated things - it has often or even usually come down eventually to some tiny thing I overlooked.

If you go step by step over the set up of fdse in both sites you may find that thing.

If this fails you could compare the specific links that it finds and those it fails to find, perhaps this will uncover the thing.

I have had it set up on the "problem" site for a year. And it was working fine....I would tell it to "crawl" a particular page and it would and then list all the other pages/links it had found on that page and I could choose which of them to go and crawl and index.

Now it just crawls the original page and doesn't find any links on it....even though there are...."no embedded links found" it tells me DISHONESTLY! LOL!

one of the settings must have changed but i'll be damned if i can find it....you know how the more you look at something, the less you see!

"the more you look at something, the less you see!"

I sure do, often the closer you get to the wood for prolonged periods the less you can see the wood for the trees.

Step away, think about other things .. rest your mind, perhaps you will have a eureka moment in the bath, the answer will come to you when reorganising your thoughts in dreams or you will see the obvious on your eventual return to it :-)

Best of luck to you anyhow :-)
Off to enjoy the rest of a sunny sunday afternoon.

thanks for your thoughts mark

anyone else have any ideas about this...which on/off button do I need to press using Fluid Dynamics so that other links on each page are seen AND listed with checkboxes?

Have you tried asking on the FDSE support forum [forum.xav.com]?
