Hi all, (not sure if this is the most appropriate category, but couldn't decide on the obvious)

Since Brett's BestBBS ain't ready yet for public consumption (and I probably won't be able to afford it anyway), can we discuss what else of the free or reasonably priced applications out there people are using and loving?
I know it's been discussed before, but an update could be useful.

Regards,

Well, I'm perfectly happy with both phpBB (which I will upgrade as soon as 2.2 comes out), and a much simpler boardware system written by a friend of mine (I use it for threaded roleplay boards where security is no issue).

and I've just finished poking around having a good look at 'Vbulletin' looks very powerful, nice, well supported and lots of user forum help etc. It seems that their new v3 release is well liked. This is one that you have to pay for, but really isn't that expensive when you figure in that it is a mature product. One of the things that impresses about this webmaster World forum and Brett's BestBBS is its blazing speed.

Cheers

I'd never BUY boardware.... phpBB is free, fast, easy, customizable.... etc etc ad infinitum ad nauseam.

This, though, IS one of those "each to hisser own" thingies.
