Wondered if anyone else has has this problem.

I have been using the email with my domain name for a while, then about a week ago when sending mail i get the error message from outlook to say the tcp/ip connection was unexpectedly terminated by the server, I have rechecked the settings all ok, I have tried outlook express same thing there, I have 2 accounts with my host same trouble with both, hoat say all is ok there and they have been very helpfull, however i do have aol as my isp and i am using there broadband, if i dissconnect and then go back on line open up outlook i can then send the stuff from my outbox just that once, but although it appears to have sent it never arrives and then all over mail i try to send gives me the same error unless i do the log off then back on bit again, so my host says all ios ok, aol say they can see no issues, outlook appears to be set up ok and has worked before now, Where do i go from here.
Wondered if anyone has any answers to this, keep hoping when i wake tomorrow all will be ok but been doing this for 5 days now!

Help please. Regards

Hi meanweaver,

I had a similar problem with a client using Outlook and this seemed to fix the problem:

1) Open outlook goto Tools -> Accounts
2) Click on the mail tab select the mail account that is having the problems and select properties.
3) Click on the servers tab check my server requires authentication then click on settings opt for my Log on Using and fill in your account user name and password.
4) Click on 'Ok' and then 'Apply'
See if that helps you out.

The client in question was also using Broadband whereas in the past he was on a dial up. If my memory recalls me rightly it’s to do with the Firewall if any is installed.

HTH,

-George

HI there,

Had done all that turned firewalls on and off and had some late night nightmares with all this, but have now found the problem.

The problem lies with Aol, the smtp server info is sent on port 25, for some reason the aol servers are blocking this port, I found the trouble out looking at Aol notice boards and have found 9 other people in my situation, I pointed this out to Aol today 30th March and they have now taken my complaint serious and have passed the problem to there technical poeple, they tell me they hope to sort it in 24 hours, so if any one in the uk reads this and is having the same problem thats why.

If youse AOl then here's why your outgoing domain mail may not work
Chatagentuk058:Welcome to Member Help Interactive. Please present your
question, and I will be with you in just a moment. :)
Chatagentuk058:Thank you for calling in to Live Help! I may be with some
other members at the moment, please state your query and I will be with you
as soon as possible :-)
Jeremybamber47:I am having trouble with mail from my own domain email, i.e.
www ian@mydomain.com i use outlook for this via a smtp server that uses
port25, aol are stopping anything on this port so outgoing mail fails.
Jeremybamber47:I was told to go to keyword imap, but this is just for aol
email accounts, i lookes on the notice board and have seen many other people
complaining of this, yesterday i was told this is with the aol techies and
should be sorted soon.can you update me further
Chatagentuk058:The Port 25 redirection has been implemented to reduce the
volume of spam being sent out from the AOL network. As the vast majority of
AOL members use the client or Communicator for email they will be unaffected
by the change. The majority of traffic over port 25 was seen to be spam sent
mostly by viruses/worms/trojans without the members' knowledge.
Jeremybamber47:so how do i use outlook via smtp which needs port 25
Chatagentuk058:Port 25 email is rate limited. You need to change your
frequency of email sending in your email client to 15 minutes.
Jeremybamber47:so this will mean i can only send 1 email every 15 minutes i
presume, is that right
Chatagentuk058:Yes.
Jeremybamber47:guess you must be getting plenty of unhappy customers, Is
there any alternative work round for using outlook with my domain name
Chatagentuk058:Yes we do I reget for this Inconvenience Caused to our
Members But it for their good to Protect them from this.
Jeremybamber47:so i guess this means anyone with a website is unable to use
outlook via smtp, I will check with my domain hosts to see if they can sort
out another way of sending via ssl maybe but if not i will have to find
another isp, i am meant to be with aol until september but this may force me
to go.
Jeremybamber47:However thankyou for your info your the first live help
person to give me the useful information. regards Ian

I have an identical port 25 problem with our ISP. I was unable (and stil can not) send mail from Outlook Express through our domains outgoing mail server. The hosting company suggested I change the outgoing mail from mail.mydomain.com to mail.isp.net.

This has resolved the problem however it makes me very nervous sending mail through our ISP as we live in a country on the brink of dictatorship and who knows what these idiots are doing with the state owned telephone company - monitoring mail? By forcing all outgoing mail through their own servers things have certainly been made easier for them.

Does anyone have a workaround for this? Any way to get OE to use something other than Port 25?

Hmmm strange one...

I am with AOL (not broadband) and like you say before you made the change to BB this problem does not exist.

Nice to know this though as it will make me think twice before using AOL BB.

Today I have spent 2 hours on the phone to AOL, It would appear there is no fix to this problem, They did try routing the mail though there smtp servers but the fact remains that these still will not let the data get to my web hosts smtp servers, The only way left is to change isp. the tech on the phone agreed with me, if your reading this and on aol check out the message boards where you can see a thread called email via smtp, Lots more unhappy aol customers posting there.
