I have a client that is unable to access my ftp loggin screen. We e-mailed him the ftp url, as well as the correct user name and password. He replied:

When I went to the URL provided: ftp://##.###.###.##/ all I got was this:

FTP Login Required
Description: You need to specify a correct username and password to access the FTP document ftp://##.###.###.##/.

(Client continues) However, there is no "prompt" nor any username or password entry field. Etc, etc, etc. If your ftp service requires us to use a dedicated ftp client I'm afraid we won't be able to use it. (end of email)

If anybody can help me with this situation I would greatly appreciate it.

If the ftp client is a command line program, the it's easy that there is no prompt and the user have to type a username directly.
Perhaps, there is any option on the program that prevents the user for using logins...
The best you can do is to reply the email and ask the user for more info. Basically, ask for wich software was using to enter your server and, if you can, try it.
If you need any further help, sticky me.

Well

It could look very obvios but...

you set the access in the folder / unit you are openig as the ftp root for the user?

your ftp server is pasive or active?

May be you can recommend your client to use some graphic ftp client that helps to understand the problem

I think the problem seems to be related to the access set to the service

Bye

You could try giving them a link:

ftp://username:password@ftpserveraddress.com

This type of link can be used in Explorer for example and correctly passes the username and password to the ftpserver specified.
