If I place the PHPAdsNew script on our web server, would it slow down the performance of the site? We serve about 5 - 8 million pages view per month.

Any advice, would be appreciated.

Thanks,

I just installed phpAdsNew. They have their own forum (although some of the members are a bit surly).

The answer to your question is of course it will slow down your webserver. How much depends on your configuration. Whether is slows it down enough to be a problem is your own judgement.

With 5-8 million pageviews a month you might want to consider putting the adserver on a different machine. You may also want to consider a different machine for an image server (both for ads and other website images).

You may also want to take a look at OASIS (available at sourceforge). My impression is that OASIS is more difficult to install but has better serving performance. There are also loads of commercial software packages (many available form hotscripts), or you might consider a service provider like Adserver from FastClick, or you might consider getting a specialty box like AdJuggler.

If you use local mode for calling, it will be much faster than java type.

Hope this helps.

ok, thanks. I think I understand the jist. New to this ad server thing. Originally used an outside service, but it take longer for the banners to appear, as well as depending if the outside ad server is up and running.

I've been using it for about 3 years now. I don't think it slows it down enough to where it would make that much of a difference.

It's a excellent script. Best of luck with it!
