I just got a call from a company offering to make me "gateway" pages for my site, each specifically optimized for top notch keywords, of course.

Are they just way behind the times or are doorway pages making a comback in the SEO world?

There was an article recently where someone make a load of doorways and watched their traffic boom, albeit not permanent. I don't think doorways ever went away, I just think they became less effective over the long term. Plus, why do you need 100 doorways when you can have 100 pages of content? Much more ideal imho.

OH! That was you I just called! Oops!

Are they just way behind the times or are doorway pages making a comback in the SEO world?

Have they ever really gone away? The concept has been refined a bit, and no one uses that name anymore, but they're still around in large quantities.

I'm seeing more of them in the top SERP that I watch and most of them use

onMouseOver="location.href = http://www.spamsite.com/regular.htm"

in the body tag. The redirect is barely noticable.
