Applying for new job

via e-mail - any advice?

I need advice on how, and in what order, I should hit them with my credentials.

A position is being advertised for a .org that I think would be an excellent development opportunity for me. Only I'm unsure how much to give away in my first e-mail. The advertisement asks for an e-mail reply so they can send an application form.

Do I simply quote the ref and ask for the form? Should I enclose a CV for their info? Should I write them a 'covering letter' style note explaining why I want the job? Or both covering letter and CV? Not sure how to play it - but I do NOT want to come accross as desperate -- but I need to show that I am interested + a good candidate?

Plain text e-mail? HTML? all Word™ (euch!)

I think a short letter style response quoting the reference would be best - but not sure.

As you can tell it has been a while since I have applied for a job. (I'm sitting on my laurels no longer!)

I'd do only as much as they've actually asked for. After all, how can you know whom is opening these e-mails?

Could get an auto-ack containing the forms.

Think of it as one step in the process and try not to be too divulgent of information not specifically requested.

True

Could be a secretary or administrator.

So would be futile to include the details. Anyway I guess the important stuff is my portfolio, experience and skils - not a well worded covreing letter. Holistically it all counts but I need to be sure I am not over egging the pudding.

Thanks

You don't sound too sure about what's going on today. So, have a go at these and let's see if we can't relieve some of that anxiety.

Ta Pedanticist

I appreciate the links I'll look into them when it's not so late.

And it is true, I don't feel myself - somewhere else altogether and 1 other board member knows why... another story.
