A turn off or a gold mine?

Hi everyone!
I'm currently working on building up revenue on my content driven website. A colleague of mine mentioned that since I have the ability to offer information through the form of video's, mp3's, ect that I should consider starting a member's area of my website. People would pay monthly (or quarterly or annually) for this special kind of information. It seems like a good idea, as my competition hasn't tapped into this area at all.
My question to you all is this; are member's sites a total turn off? Or are is it something I should really consider? In theory I think it's a great idea, but realistically, I'm not so sure. FYI, my target is young women aged 16-26, if that changes anything.

Thanks in advance!

Well it worked for Danny Sullivan, and it works here... Give lots away for free, but keep just enough back to attract people into paying.

That said, your target audience is not exactly the wealthiest socioeconomic group.

People can justify paying money for professional webmaster and SEO information. They'll also spend money on something that's enjoyable, like games. You have to ask yourself whether you're offering something sufficiently unique and compelling enough to make a relatively poor age group want to part with their cash.

But just because it hasn't been done yet by your competitors doesn't mean it won't work for you.
