Hi

I need to test a bunch of homepages on the web for file size and download time for different connections. I used to use a freeware program offered on some website to do this but I can't remember (or find) this website anymore. Any ideas?

Try the speed test at websiteoptimization.com. You can either type a URL into the form at that site, or make things easier by using the Web Developer Toolbar extension for Mozilla FireBird. It has a feature that allows you to run the speed test for any page you are currently viewing - the report opens in a new tab.

When I'm on IE, I use the Q42 Page Size Calculator (try a web search for the same). The report is not as complete as that of websiteoptimization.com, but since it is a bookmarklet you can use it on your intranet, internal staging server, or locally stored files.
