Hi,

I'm really having a difficult time. Five days ago I was having problems ftping into my server and getting statistics. I told my web host this and they say that they are working on the problem. On Dec. 27, I got a message saying I was over quote , which wasn't true. The web host increased the size, and still no good, I couldn't get in. Now, it is the 30th and I still can't get in. The web company is on limited staffing until the 18th of January! This is terrible, plus the fact, that the web company thought I should add a second site, rather than adding more content to the first site, as the two sites are similar, I'm a poet and sell pre-written and customized poems. So now, i'm in a pickle.

What would you do? The ecommerce site has yet to be spidered, I head that google was there the other day but got some type of error, I've had it, I need help!

Thanks

I thought why not combine the two sites, I called my credit card processing comapny and they said sure, combine it. I think I should do that and also switch hosts. Correct?

sounds like a good plan to me. Remember though - there are no perfect web hosts. Everyone here has horror stories and even the best hosts have problems from time to time.

I decided to host my own about three years ago and I've been happy with that arrangement. It costs me more than hosting it remotely, and my downtime is more than it would be elsewhere, but I like having the server at my fingertips, and the knowledge learned far outweighs the extra cost.

Oh, and what kind of pickle are you in? Dill,Kosher, B&B...?

I'd be outta there like a shot. There are plenty of hosting companies around that will look after you in a professional manner without charging the earth.

Sticky me if you need a suggestion.

I thought why not combine the two sites

There are many good reasons for running more than one site. But if the two sites have the same theme, I guess this'll let you concentrate on getting one site up and running.

I would switch without a doubt, there are plenty of good hosting companies out there.

Make sure you have the new content set up on the new host before you change the nameservers over and maybe leave the old stuff up for a bout a month after on the old IP address.

Everyone here has horror stories

txbakers is right here, but the limited staffing comment would have me worried. I use two hosting companies ... one of them was open for support on Xmas day :)

Thanks for your suggestions! As to what kind of a pickle, I'm in, I'm in a huge dill pickle hahahh, I mean, you gotta laugh, but this is just beyond, beyond.

So, you're saying to keep the content up on the host that I have now until I switch over,or what was it you said again?

I like WestHost pretty good...link at the bottom of WebmasterWorld. I also like Page-Zone.

I don't know a lot of different hosts. I've heard all good things about Westhost. I've been at Hostmatters since I started with paid hosting a few years ago and have no horror stories at all. They, too, were open on Xmas day if needed. No phone support, but I've never needed it. They've always taken care of everything through their ticketing system and their forums in a timely manner.

Thanks for all of your suggestions. Lo and behold today, I got an email from my host and things are pretty much back to normal. Atleast I can ftp once again and the sites are back up. So, I th ink for now, I will wait it out, but will check out your suggestions.

Thanks so much and happy new year!
