Posting here coz 'Deprecated - Search Engine Spider Identification' does not allow me to post new topics.

I noticed a visit from the 'Almaden IBM crawler' ( [almaden.ibm.com...] ) and I've read old post on the crawler and thought what search engines the crawler provide SERPs results for.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I always thought it was mostly a research bot, so it doesn't supply results to a major search engine.

I was curious about this too and e-mailed IBM. They advised that it was a research bot used by IBM exclusively.

I sent them an e-mail after reading the information on their website. But I don't have a response yet.

From what I read on their site it seems as if this robot is gathering information about 'trends' on the web. But it does not specify it it is technology trends (such as ASP, PHP, Javascript, etc.) or general content topics.

You could immagine what they could do with information on which technologies are growing in use and popularity, or how they could sell information on growing market trends based on what content is developing on websites.

The robot aparently understands content similar to what Google is suspected of doing with the Florida update.

I will pass on what I learn if I get a response to my e-mail.
