Tiling graphics, good or bad?

I am curious if users get annoyed by tiling graphics

I have been planning on re-building my website into a PHP driven site for some time and have been reading over and over the articles and tips on this website so I think I have become a little paranoid as to pages loading quickly. From testing my pages online, they load quickly, the content appears right away but I am using little sliced up images from Photoshop and tiling them w/ the HTML to make a content box for example. Is this something I want to avoid even though it makes the pages much more attractive?

I guess it depends on what you want to acheive with your site. If you need to show off products then do so, as long as they open quickly. Are you testing it on different systems, using differing connection speeds and with the cache flushed?

The other thing which you'll probably know is that SE's and images don't really get along, how will using more images affect your SERP's?

IMHO images are fine as long as they are used where necessary. If they benefit the end user without slowing down download speeds then by all means, go for it. If you keep scanning your logs you'll get a fair idea what's happening anyway. :-)
