On fluidhosting I can get a cheaper account with a shared IP OR a more expensive account with a dedicated IP.

Now, i dont really need a dedicated IP right now...BUT if/when I upgrade to the more expensive hosting, my IP will become dedicated and therefore change, causing some google problems...

Therefore, I ask ye gods of WebmasterWorld, should I bite the bullet and get the hosting plan with dedicated hosting now.. so as to save myself of any future problems?

The only problem you will have when you upgrade is about 24 hours for the new IP to propogate throughout the internet.
Then it will be back to normal.

If the hosting company is also hosting the DNS you could ask them nicely to adjust the DNS refresh rate to a smaller figure, say 600 seconds a few days before transferring the IP address. This would minimize the downtime and increase propogation speeds.
