banner ad

I am having problems with a banner ad. It displays at the bottom of my screen. It is just like an ad displayed on a webpage so there is no close button and it does not show up in task manager. It is not always there but pops up at least every other time I'm using my computer. Even if I'm just using Word...because I have a cable modem hooked up and it is always online. That becomes particularly annoying especially when I'm using the drawing tools in word which display at the bottom of the screen. I do have a pop-up blocker on my system so if I click on the banner to open it and possibly close it, the pop-up window does not open. The banner just dissappears for half a second and returns. It does not go away until I restart my computer. There is also no company to contact on these ads. The last one just said rate your debt with a list of radio buttons to supposedly make a choice.

Has anyone ever seen these ads and know how to get rid of them?

Welcome to WebmasterWorld, red_angel!

Sounds like you are infected with some scumware. Download and run AdAware. This will scan your system for spyware/scumware and remove it for.

Repeat this about once a week to remain clean!

Take a look at Spybot Search & Destroy as well. It's also free. Many people have said that both Spybot and AdAware pick things the other missed, so often the two are run one right after the other.

Thanks guys...I do have Search and Destroy on my computer. I should of thought that it was adware. I usually run it a lot but I told my boyfriend that I would put Kazaa on my computer over Christmas break for him even though it slows stuff down. I thought I had my firewall blocking all the spyware Kazaa adds but I guess I was wrong. I guess if I don't find it I'll deal with it until next semester when I delete Kazaa and clean my computer up.

You might try to removing it from your system manually. On a Windows system, go to Control Panel > Add Remove Progams. See if there is a program you didn't install. Click on remove to get rid of it.

True scumware isn't that easy to remove but you may get lucky.
