i'm considering buying one of those commercially-available templates you see all around sold through re-sellers, etc. nothing fancy, just a home page and a couple of sub-pages. but how does that work? i assume i get html code and all psd files, right? can i modify those to my heart's content? add stuff, delete stuff? create as many sub-pages as i want based on the one template?
anyone familiar with the process or having experience with this, would love to hear from you. thanks.

Mine came with graphics and HTML, no PSD files but that was fine with me. I liked the layouts as they were.
I have created many sub pages from the single sub-page in the templates, remember they are just a layout, you can do what you need to get them to work for you.
What I would recommend if you are going to use templates is to use CSS to put text into them. It can be a little tricky, but it's much less graphics work, and it's also much more SE friendly.
Not to mention that the text loads instantly even if the graphics are still loading, so there is no delay for your content.
I love templates, I am much more of a programmer than a graphic designer so templates save me a fortune in time.
I have used two templates for a couple of customer websites and really liked working with them.
