IP Passthroughs

Has anyone heard of such a thing?

Hello, I'm new here, so I’m not sure if this is the place to post this topic, but here goes...

My ISP Assigns a private 192.168.xx.xx address for its users on wireless broadband. If one wants to have a public IP opened up to point to his or her system, a pass-through is installed and specific ports are opened to point to the corresponding port on the private IP. For example, I access 166.80.167.22:55 it would point to 192.168.5.85:55, the former being the installed pass-through and the latter being my private IP, hypothetically. Now this works fine, except that when it comes to port 80, it is not forwarded, and I get a dialog box saying "The operation timed out when attempting to contact xx.****.****.xx." This only happens for port 80. My ISP says that all requested ports, including port 80 are open, and they are all forwarding. If anyone knows what is wrong, please contact me ASAP.

A few bits of information you might like to know:
* Operating system of ISP - Win2k
* Web server of ISP - VisNetic Website
* Operating system of my PC - WinXP Home SP1
* Web server of my PC - Apache 2.0.47

Thanks,
DCHWeb

I just went through something similiar. I am using a BellSouth DSL modem with a dedicated IP. The technician told me to use an IP passthrough to my PC so that I could serve web pages.

I tried that and it did not work very well. It turned out the modem had a DHCP server running. I disabled the DHCP server which also disabled the IP passthrough. Then I used my Linksys router's port forwarding. This worked like a charm.
