Hi aaron - most of the majors have link (usually off the front page) that says something like 'add Google to your site' etc. They provide very good instructions on how to do it.

Don't add any of the major search engines to your site unless they compensate you.

After all, why should we link to them, when nowadays more and more of them are only adding our sites to their listings if we put money into their coffers...

Google's the only decent one out there - all the other ones are GREEDY. Take Ask Jeeves, which I used to like. It is now just a glorified shopping portal. Most links are to commerical partners of theirs... who have obvioulsy paid Jeeves the capitalist butler.

NBCi pays .01 a search, if they are still adding affiliates you can sign up at befree.com. I'm using that one.

I also just noticed a new affiliate program for Ask Jeeves on CJ.com, I think it was .01/search as well.

If you want to provide quality search that isn't seen on everyone else's site, take a look at ixquick. It's a meta engine, so your visitors will be presented with the results from an array of SEs.

Like Oil said, most have an 'add search' link on the front, as does ixquick. But here's their page url since I had it on the clipboard
