I'm not sure if I can mention the site that wrote to me so I won't. But what I think is a large website wrote to me stating they had added a link to my site. The problem is when you click the link it puts my non-commercial and very anti-commercial hobby website in a frame below another frame in which there are banner ads that refresh every 90 seconds. There is a link in the top frame to turn off frames but still, I find this practice very offensive and objectionable.
Two questions:
1) Am I being naive in thinking this is an atypical method of linking?
2) What, if anything, should I do to try and remedy the situation? Would a nice e-mail asking to be de-linked suffice. Or should the e-mail be more forceful, as in more lawyerly?
As of right now the link has only been up for a few days and I've received no significant traffic from it.
But I'm really more curious about how to approach the search engine in question with my concerns and get them to either remove the frame or remove the link.
BTW, in two days or so I've had six visitors from this link and not one of them has ventured into other areas of the website. They've simply looked at the one page and left.
