Assuming a PC has Messenger installed and working...

Can a text link in a web page be used to start and/or open Microsoft Messenger..?

I am looking to put a link into a web page with a "click to start messenger" message in it.

Hmm... Offhand, I would say no, unless the user has you as a trusted site.

I know that you can embed ActiveX to gain access to the Msg API using .Net, and it may be possible to launch it that way. Check msdn.microsoft.com for more info!

If you are using .NET, take a look at the FirstFloor.Msn here:

The actual API docs are here:

msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/exchanchor/htms/msexchsvr_mapi.asp

are you looking for a live chat/support kinda applicaton? In which case I'm sure you can find some open-source non IM solutions...

just two cents.
