Hej guys….

Don’t know how many of u are aware, but here in the UK the spam laws have changed…
Basically my company has a database of over 30,000 past customers held within our act database. We periodically trawl this database 4 keywords, or use our groups to send out semi targeted marketing and news blasts. Basically we are no obliged to re contact all of these customers and ask for their permission to continue to contact them in this format.

The argument is not whether or not we are required to do this as this is a decision above my control but the best method to obtain the maximum re-application of these users. I had noticed that HP UK sent out a broadcast to cover this which provided a personalised through link to which automatically confirmed your conscription…..

Cost is V tight at present and ideally I would like to perform this operation at no cost. I have been looking into programmes and love the “Web Wiz Mailing List” does anyone have any more product/ asp script suggestions (I am no programmer ;) )

Next – were I to use the Web Wiz program – can anyone see any way of automation the process for the customer as much as possible:

1.Perhaps in someway harness/hack the inbuilt confirmation email/check which u receive when u initially signup………..
2.or perhaps some form of a mail merge which adds the recipients email addy to a submit field contained within the broadcasted email – ovb problem is Web Vis is an asp based prog which I presume there is noway of using within an email – unless the form is in some way superimposed/ called from a web-based asp page into the email….

Ouch – where am I!

Thanks in advance for any help u guys can provide ;)

Use something like Mojo Mail (do a google search)

Import your email list and send a message to everyone informing them of the new laws and your wish to protect their privacy. If they no longer wish to receive your, no doubt, super offers then to click on the unsubscribe link at the bottom of the email. (The link will be created automatically by Mojo Mail.)

Any future email will also include the unsubscribe link.

Should do the trick

Not to take anything away from elgumbo's good advice.

I hate responding to 'unsubscribe' links. I would much prefer to have to follow a link to subscribe. But then I don't send 'spam'.

Are your customers priviate inviduals or busineses? If businesses the law does not affect them in the same way.

Secondly, if they are private individuals and are ex-customers, check your privacy notice as you may have already permitted communication with an opt-in previously.

It's good practice and law enable opt-in/out at every opportunity.

Either way, spam is bad, bad, bad.
