subdomains - what's involved

PHP subdomains mysql logins

I'm looking at creating a service and have been looking around for a host. I found [lypha.com...] and they let me have unlimited subdomains.

My users will need to register but not necessarily login to access their information.

rather than giving each a url to their personal pages as
* [mysite.com...]
I could give them
* [yourstuff.mysite.com...]

which looks cooler.

Now for each registration I'll want to set up 2 tables in a mysql database in their name (easy), and set up their subdomain (what's involved?).

Can their pages always point to a single index.php?

What else do I need to consider?

Ask your host for a wildcard DNS entry.

is that it?

no .htaccess stuff?

I guess since they're not ftp'ing it will be simpler. Great!

sorry don't know about .htaccess

i was just answering the question
of how to make the site reachable
from a browser. but yes, a single
index.php should be okay. you
need to read the host header sent
by the browser.

Hi

I'm not doing it straight away, just checking out what's involved so that when I get the go ahead I can move quickly.

I looked at Lypha but have read a bad review so will revise that.

Then saw a good review for a few sites and spiderweave came into my budget range here's what they said

We only offer subdomain support as if the go to sarah.mysite.com the will go
to mysite.com/sarah
