We are begining to look for a design/development agency to help gut and rework our website. Was wondering what kind of questions anyone who has used an outside vendor has asked.

How did you go about getting 3 or 4 vendors to evaluate?

When you're choosing a design agency, it's not necessarily about the questions you ask them. You want them to be asking questions, and lots of them. You want to hear stuff like...

- what are your business goals for your website?
- what would it take for you to consider your website successful?
- what internal resources are you willing to commit on a regular basis to maintain your website?
- what are your requirements for the website

Obviously there are lots of questions you can ask them to help you decide whether they're up for the job, but in my experience, the success of a website project depends largely on the client.

The most important question you can ask them is:
- show me example URLs to projects of a similar size and scope of my project
