CuteFTP and CHMOD help

Im using CuteFTP on Windows XP.

Everytime i go to chmod a file or directory, it comes up with an error message:

[oekaki]
COMMAND:> SITE CHMOD 777 oekaki
500 'SITE CHMOD 777 oekaki': command not understood

ive tried different number combinations but alas they also do not work. Please help me im aboutt o tear my hair out! thank u lol

Is your server a windows OS? If so you cannot do a chmod command as this is a Unix command not understood by Windows.
What you may have to do in that case is get an administrator to change the permissions, as you cannot change the permissions remotely with any FTP utility.
