Just got an email from "Microsoft Corporation Public Support" with a sender adress at updates_msdn.net. It looks very professional, as if it was really sent by M$ and wants me to install a patch (exe file) for IE, Outlook & Outlook Express.

I fear many people will fall for that, so be careful.

Yep received 2 on one of my email addresses. It asks you to run attachement to install latest patches.

As Sinner_G said it looks really professional and almost had me, be careful.

In case of doubt go on the microsoft update site and check your system's up to date.

Here [securityresponse.symantec.com] is what Symantec has to say about it.

<added>BTW, as the domain doesn't exist, a WHOIS gives VeriSign as owner. So how many people will think it is a trustworthy company and install it? And maybe then sue VeriSign?</added>

Hi all

So we meet again last month was Sobig now this one.

I have just received it was blocked by NAV which was great but I have to say this is going to catch many more people then any other hoax & viruses I have seen.

The email is so well thought out, and includes contact links to the Microsoft team. I read the alerts early this morning alerted all my colleagues and waited for it to attack.

I am glad i read the alert this morning like I do every two days now!

As Microsoft says they never send patches out by email so only us who work in the trade will know, the average user who doesn't have Anti Virus Software will be caught out.
