Microsoft plugins to change / break all code

I'm laughing at the Flash enthusiasts right now

Microsoft has lost even more ground on the IE plugin technology:

I've always turned to dhtml/gifs to do what alot of folks lazily or enthusiastically turn to Flash for. Lean but creative pages are an art and always will be. I guess folks who think like me are getting a last laugh as microsoft is being forced to break the flash plugin code.

Can you imagine how many pages out there are going to have to be changed for compatibility? This will almost be as bad as the "millinium bug" (2000 year fix). Very happy none of my sites will need any changes, and no upset clients...

"In the near term, Microsoft has indicated to the W3C that they will very soon be making changes to its Internet Explorer browser software in response to this ruling," Steven R. Bratt, chief operating officer of the W3C, said in a statement. "These changes may affect a large number of existing Web pages."

This will be interesting... LOL

I am guessing at least 10-15% of the sites made after 2000 will be affected overall. However some design companies/individuals use Flash like it is as safe and standardized as using a gif on a page and they are going to get slammed.

A good debate is going to be if the designer owes it to the customer to fix the pages for free or if the customer is going to have to pay to have everything fixed even if they didn't understand the technology the designer was relying on.

Fortunately a few sites with blaring sounds that fire up when you enter will be affected too :) (unless they are using <bgsound> ) ...

I've always had a strange aversion to plugins, now I know why :)
In fact, I'm already blocking plugins, so the web won't look much different from here ;)
This is one (seemingly) IE induced problem I can live with.

This is bigger than Flash. It affects Adobe Acrobat, too.

Microsoft plugins to change

This is bigger than Microsoft. It affects all browsers that use browser helpers. Including Netscape.

No Flash or PDF files.
How WILL life go on without them...

Wow more web pages might actually return to usability ;)
Now if they could just break those stupid floating dhtml ads.

I really don't see a big issue. When the time comes there will be conversion tools be macromedia and adobe. They are not going to watch it destroy the programs.

The pages that truely use Flash will be converted no sweat. The people who use flash the way it was meant to instead of a super gif.

I think that adobe would have an easier time with it.
