Defacement Attack

I've just discovered that one of my sites has had its homepage defaced - luckily, all the other pages on the site appear to be OK and unharmed.

As this is the first time I've encountered a defacement attack, I obviously need to get onto the hosting provider for that site and take up the matter with them. But in advance of doing that, I was wondering whether anyone here has had a similar experience - and, if so, what is the best approach to take with the hosting provider (it's a low-cost shared hosting option, with a monthly payment).

I'd be tempted to move hosts to someone with better security.
