Has anyone seen a reliable statistics from an unbiased source that describes how much of the web traffic is generated by search engines, how much by links from external sources, and how much by direct access / bookmarks?

My site gets 95% of the traffic from search engines, and has been like that forever, regardless of my external links. Kinda risky, but I think that most of us are similar.

Thoughts?

Traffic source is very different from one site to another, reliying in the contents, user's profile, easy to remember domain name, and site age.
Look for our numbers, if this helps you:

58% Direct request, favorites or hidden referrer page.
34% Indentified search engines.
08% External links.

Hi Flex,

Alot of websites have their primary source of traffic as search engines and usually Google. I would try my hardest to alter this incase the worst comes to the worst. One of my sites (after 3 years hard graft) has what I think is a very good balance).

78% of traffic from links (of which no one site generates more than 1%)
1% Offline advertising
No PPC or online advertising
7% Unknown (most likly people bookmarking or typing the url
13% Search engines (of which 68% is covered by Google, ATW, Ink and Y!)

1% lost in rounding :)

I have about 1600 backlinks (no matter what esmeralda says) which generate a steady 35% themed traffic. Google brings 35%, Yahoo 13%, MSN 7%, AOL 5% and 5% unknown (percentages rounded.)
