looking for a good program to encrypt and so secure the hard drive on a laptop. so far the ones ive looked at require you to create a new volume and store sensitive files there. is there nothing that will enrypt the drive totally on the fly?

Windows XP Pro is capable of encrypting folders or even individual files on the fly transparent to the user. I think this is a great thing.

It requires NTFS file system, but you should be using this anyway.

Good:
Totally transparent.
Good enough for most practical security issues.
Integrated with logon password, no separate passwords to deal with.

Bad:
You must backup a "key" incase your password, etc gets lost.
Backup's may be more difficult to manage.

Safehouse does on-the-fly encryption and you can get a free eval copy.

Built in Fingerprint reader, can't get any better for that kind of money.
