I have a dedicated server with Westhost and have had no problems until the past couple of days, when a number of my sites began be down for short periods (in excess of 30 seconds). Tonight, when I tried to access Westhost support, Westhost's home page at www.westhost.com failed to load several times, and then it started working properly again. I used the Westhost Live Chat support to talk with customer support, and the technician said she didn't know anything about the problems, and my server reports it's been up 130 days. She volunteered that there had been some power outages in Utah that might have had something to do with it. I don't want to unfairly switch hosting comopanies if the problems are power outages or problems with the lines between Utah and Birmingham, Al. (where I live), but I'm thinking of switching to pair hosting. Has anybody else had any reliability problems with Westhost? Anybody have any comments about pair?

I had a similar problem that seemed to be more of a tracert problem rather than someting on Westhost's end. The problem went away in a day or two. I'd be curious to see a comparison between WestHost and Pair when it comes to connection to Internet Backbones.

When it comes to MIVA, WestHost can't be beat!

I've never used Webhost, but that is probably because I've been with pair for several years without any problems =).

I think this is the most recent thread summarizing the same type of question:

Mike, the outages were probably caused by Mormon Crickets [msnbc.com] which are currently infesting that part of the country. ;)
