Hi!

I've got a client that has a website. I think he let his domain registration lapse and now when you type in his domain, it goes to www.<some domain reseller>.com, with a nice message that his domain is for sale and it will cost between $600 and $10,000.

Can he do anything about this? It looks like they took it over on May 16th.

Not really if your client let it lapse. Its really fair game at that point. Your client should have recieved time after expiration to renew. I understand how frustrating it is, but they really should have renewed if they wanted to keep it.

Short of putting in a bid or waiting to see when (or indeed if) the domain expires, your Client can't really do anything at all.

As Korkus says, they should have received renewal notices prior to deactivation and failure to renew has lead to their domain being put back into circulation and made available for sale.

It's a hard lesson to learn, but if a domain is of any importance, always renew it with plenty of time to spare. Could lead to lots of heartache and lost revenue otherwise.
