Three sites of mine have been down for 3 hours.

The host in question had a complete web server fault, but guess what... their site is now back up and running which was running on the same server as mine, but all other customers sites including mine now returns 403 Forbidden page.

Rubbish help desk support doesnt ease the frustration either!

Thank god all my sites arent hosted with them!

Sites are now back online (that was a quick rant) but it gets worse.

They seem to have reverted to old versions of the sites. I have three sites that are now over a month old. One has had a complete redesign, but instead I have the old version back.

I think I will be moving hosts in the next week or so.

The list of problems goes on!

I just sent them an email, they got two days to retain me as a customer or I will be gone.

I'll join your club - mine server is down today! I should have predicted it of course - today was the day I was going to take a full backup!
Luckily I've had so many problems in the passed I've got fairly good back ups anyway. This is the one downside of running websites. I wonder if there'll ever be a day when it's as reliable as, say a TV.

I got a reply from my email, generic crap. They thought that it would be a good idea to tell me my FTP details, my site stats and then tell me the date of when I last uploaded anything. They seemed to miss all of my questions that I actualy asked though.

Are there actually many/any honest hosts out there?

I don't think i would ever go back from having my own server!

I went to order/setup a reseller pack for a client earlier this month from a webhost, and it just didn't work, i couldn't ftp to the server at all, host said it was router and isp, isp said it was router, router said it was isp and host, gave me the right run-around!

creative_craig, why don't you give us the hoster name? - the community has a right to know what to avoid.

Best not start any flame posts, check your stickymail :)

That's not a flame IMO and I sincerely think that the names of hosters that provide inferior service are to be announced publicly, just to save a lot of forum members their precious time and money.
TOS does not allow for promotional posts and that's understandable, but what I asked for is not a promo - it's a help and advice for a lot of webmasters, which is exactly what we come here for.

I think it is probably better IMHO not to start any precedents with slagging off webhosts or various other companies. As one Mod recently pointed out to me - threads from here very often end up nr. 1 in Google...

I use to lurk there too. And even post occasionally :)
But you know, without the real names such a thread becomes almost pointless. I mean a dialogue like "My host is bad" -"Locate a better one" contains no useful info at all. Which is strange to see on a board the aim of which is to share useful info.

StanBo, I think WebmasterWorld is in a class of its own with respect to quality of posts, flaming, lack of advertising etc.

Unfortunately all of the above are par for the course in most of the hosting forums :). That may partially explain why Brett hasn't added a 'Web Hosting' forum here.

I come here for design, scripting and SEO discussion and visit the hosting forums for the technical and other hosting issues.

That's not to discount the Unix/Linux forums here - there are plenty of WebmasterWorld members that know hosting backwards.
