The number of search engine hits to my site has been increasing over the past months. Is this because traffic in the Internet in general is increasing with more and more people using the Internet, or is it because my site is ranking better in the search engines?

This is really a question for your own server logs. By analysing your logs, you can see directly if the traffic increase is coming from search engines or some other source.

I doubt that the general increase in web users would make an impact that you would notice over just a couple months. But the source of your traffic may be many, many things - including lots more automated bots, rather than people. Only your logs will tell you for sure.

Well, I analysed my logs and the hits from search engines such as Google, Yahoo and so on have increased over the past months.

At what rate is the overall Internet traffic currently growing?
