Ever since I read the 12 month follow up post to Brett Tabke's "Successful site in 12 months with Google alone", I have been implementing the steps he suggests.

2 things he mentioned are small page size and staying away from javascript.

We have posted on our home page a BBB reliability banner that links to their site for a profile on our company. This has proven to be very helpful in that it gives us credibility and has helped to close sales.

In addition to the home page I have placed it at the top of every page as a constant reminder to our visitors of our "credibility".

The total size of the image and javascript is around 3.2KB.

2 questions.
Is the banner sufficient enough on just the homepage? And am I hurting every other page's ability to rank well by the added weight and javascript?

Thanks in advance and keep up the good work Webmaster World!

Hi J-Mac:

To me, I think a banner might be a bit much. I assume a banner is 486x60. I think a button on each page- if you wanted to go that route- would be better.

The size is not bad at 3.2 k... and I would not worry about Java.... what Brett means by that (if I can be so bold as to speak for Brett!) is that you do not want all your page linking and your important text in Javascript. A link to another site- and one you do not care if Google folows or not- makes no difference to you! So size and Java, no worries for you it sounds lile!

Thanks carfac. No it is not a large banner, at 90 x 31 it is rather small. I think my using the term banner exaggerated the actual size.
