Mailing List SW

I am thinking of start a mailing list and was thinking of what type of tool to use?

1) Web Based Mailing List management tool
2) PC based tool

However, I am thinking of pros and cons for both type and was thinking that the only bad side for PC based tool might be auto un/subscribe, but there are few PC based software that can take care of this too - however I would love to hear from you guys of which option would be better and for what reason.. and I am sure this will help many other people with same confusion.
