History of web design

Looking for some history

I'm trying to find some history on Web design, like "the worlds first ever Web site" or just generally how Web design has evolved.
Has anybody ever come across any articles like these?

I'd recommend reading Weaving the Web [amazon.com], a book by Tim Berners-Lee - the man who pretty much started the whole thing off.

Its a really excellent book with some very interesting insights.

I can't say I've ever actually looked at the site in depth, aside from looking up older sites on the wayback machine, but www.archive.org may have some helpful info.

Possibly deserves a mention in terms of 'compiling tomorrow's history today' sort of thing
