Reporting a large study from the US Center for Democracy and Technology, the article discusses how to avoid e-mail spam harvesting robots. In the study, they posted addresses in different formats in different places. They got no spam for the ones written as john at mydomain dot com or the ones written using the HTML equivalent for the @ symbol.

Definitely hiding from harvesters is a good idea. But more and more spam comes from emails to default addresses - sales@ info@ webmaster@ which is not so easy to avoid because users also expect these email accounts to be active. These days spammers will just email millions of unverified addresses on the off chance and I think this trend will continue.
