Hi,

Had a few hundred emails arrive to dave@ chis@ john@ one of our domains this weekend.

They were all Failed Delivery notices from Mail Delivery Systems, Mail Daemons etc...

We have never used dave@ chris@ etc... and because there is a catch all facility with our hosting, we are getting these arriving to the default address.

It seems like a spammer (or spammers) has used our domain as a reply to on a mass mailing, thus giving us a mass of error emails.

Our hosting is not too complex and we've now trying to remove the catch all.

Anyone take a guess what is going on? Many thanks :)

It sure sounds like email spam to me. I know there is software available to install at the server level but does anyone on WW know if it's any good at all? Are those programs good in any way?

I sure would like to know too, because we are getting more than our fair share too...

What a waste of time, day aftrr day- it all adds up

:-(

That's likely it. I see this every so often. Nothing much can be done about it.

You could inform your host so they don't get misdirected spam complains and take action against your account.

I can handle a little spam, but this is like 140+ per day which is clogging up everything we do.

I can't even get IP addresses on this one, mainly coz they are all error messages from someone who is using our domain as their dumping ground.

To anyone viewing the return path it looks like we sent the spam. :(

I am trying to get rid of the catch-all facility using our host's online management system... but it won't stick.

I guess I need to get a new host with some decent email options.
