recipient preference options

Hi
does anyone know of a email list managing product that will allow to send to different groups of people based on preferences they choose when signing up?

e.g. in my current mlm I have a list for people who like red widgets and want html email, one for red widget fans who like text email, one for blue widgets etc etc.

I would like a system that keeps one big list but also stores lots of different preferences associated with addresses, so I could select at sending time e.g. peolple who live in the southeast who like red widgets but not green ones and recive html email etc etc, - but without keeping a specific list for each group of people.

I am going to have lots of different choices for the type of information to send and keeping distinct lists for each little preference would be unmanageable.

I don't know of any email management software that does all that, but the best thing I can suggest doing is take a look at some of the script archives, like HotScripts.com, Sourceforge.net, and freshmeat.net perhaps.

Another member may have some better ideas. :)

I would recommend mailworkspro.com (Web Based) & Group Mail by infacta (PC Based), they both are hard to beat.

Sometimes the best way to deal with something like that is to just build it yourself if you have the technical know-how.

I run a system like you describe which I built in asp and sql in half a day. The best thing about doing it this way is you can customise it to exactly what you want it to do.

id love to do this but am only just getting started with php/sql, and building the db for the site is probably going to take up a fair chunk of my time. maybe one day....:)
