Hello,

I'm looking for a portal script for users that is more user based than content based. I like using phpwebsite and phpnuke for blogs but I would like to find something php based allows users to have a calender, links, news, etc. I've been switching a lot of people over from AOL to my Internet service and I would like to give them something easy to use and something they can modify easily.

Thanks,
Beckie

Hi Beckie,

If your looking for something ready-made with very little having to be done, then hotscripts.com and sourceforge.net are good places to start looking. They have lots of pre-made scripts, and if you want to do something yourself, have some very good tips & tutorials.

HTH,
Regards.

Hi HTH,

Thanks for responding :-)

I've searched hotscripts and did a little bit on sourceforge but the searches I'm putting in aren't coming up with anything that I really want. Most are geared to a community as oppsed to a person.

Thanks for the help!

Beckie

Hi there,
wruk999 was spot on about taking a look through hotscripts. One thing I like to do is visit the homepages and that way you will get an impression of what it would be like in a real world situation. If on the other hand you visit the site and they are not using the portal script on their own site then perhaps that says something about their opinions of it.

Another thing to look out for is, can it be spidered? You really need this so that you can work on getting good listings in search engines. In general look for portals that create static url's and avoid systems that make use of sessions.

There have been quite a lot of threads on these boards related to portal software and what is good, what is bad. You could try a site search to bring out some of the previous discussions.

Hope this helps.

Hi Beckie,

Sorry that they did not throw up decent results for you - I do know a few people who have used PHP-Nuke and say it is good. I have no personal experience with this one though.

Try doing Google searches for "PHP Portal Systems" etc and see what they throw up.

And if you cannot find anything...D-i-Y lol

William
