Hello everyone,

Thanks for the taking the time to read this message. I came here to try to learn how one finds a webmaster, what the normal charges are, and basically to get some help.

My needs are very basic, editing of webpages, and putting them back up on the web. I own a website that also has a posting forum. However the old webmaster has somehow screwed things up with the forum.

I will relate my problem here so if anyone replies they know what I am dealing with.

My website was with one service provider, and the webmaster moved it to another, since that took place, the forum (UBB) has never been the same. It will log you off automatically after 1 or 2 posts. It was never like that before.

I have pages that have dead links or pages that no longer exist.

In the past, my service was mixed in with a group of sites, and my domain name was in another name. In the last few days, the domain has been transferred over to me, and I have set up my own account with the server provider. So as you can see, I am in transition.

I use FP2000 to update pages I know what to do with and use FTP to load them. I apologize if this has run long, I just want people to know what I am dealing with.

I have a nice site, and appreciate any pointing in the right direction.

My website is <snip - no urls please> if you want to take a look at it, you can contact me via the website from there.

Thank you again for your time.

Welcome to WW Freak!

Apart from a stack of members who are more than capable of helping you out, and a wealth of info for you to pick up on this site, do a search for "SEO consultants" and youll have a 3rd party website that lists a number of webmasters who can help promote your website.

Searching for a "designer" may be the other half of the jigsaw.

the forum "libraries" contain some of the best threads produced here at this forum, if you choose to "go it alone", i'd check out these threads first.

p..s check the terms of service at the bottom of the page, you may want to edit your psot to remove your URL....its just one of those things ;)

again, welcome to ww. everything you need as a webmaster is here.

Thank you brother of lan. I apologize for not following the rules. It wasn't intentional.

I guess I am a lot newer than I thought. I have no idea what a SEO consultant is.

Since I have a website that is up and running, I think I am in good shape as far as design goes. I am really looking for someone that I can work with and say hey "This could use updating on this page", and it gets done.

To give an example, I have an area that is listed in my menu that no longer exists, so when people go to that area it is pointing to a very old page that no longer does anything.

So I would want that link removed and all old pages associated with it.

I hope that clears things up a bit, and again I apologize for my error in posting my e-mail address and website url.

Thanks again for taking the time to read and reply.

>url

no worries, its just so people dont self promote and it keeps the place clean ;)

>SEO

search engine optimisation.

>example

when you get more familiar with the code, why its there and what it does, itll be second nature to improve upon it.

Stick around! people here are very knowledgable.

most of it is an exact science, things like SEO, "good design" and "effective designs" can be a bit more fuzzy logic I guess ;) You'll get a better feel for it by checking out this place often.

when youre checking out the threads around here and youre unsure what they mean, most of the usual terms can be found here
