Getting out of control

Hi Everyone.

I wonder if anyone can help me. I run a busy'ish forum focused on the entertainments sector and more and more people are posting 'naughty' words and as my filtered words list is increasing I need to stop the naughty words now as my host is getting angry.

Can someone please sticky me a list of their "filtered words" so I can stop these evil-doers on my site please?

The more the better.

The best way to handle it is to offer an understanding, yet firm hand on the forum. Don't scold folks in public (PM's are good for that) and edit the posts by hand. Refer people to your TOS that states "no foul language" and once you draw in the reins, people are pretty good. If you need some help, offer one or two of your regular visitors (who don't post the nasties) the job of moderator.

Then, explain to your host that you are taking action and within a week or so, the place will start to clean itself up.

Word filters will never work. If someone wants to get past them, then it's pretty easy. If you keep a kind, yet firm stance on everything folks will come around - just like in here. I'm sure there are some words that are filtered here, but for the most part, people just don't use them because we fear the wrath of "Team Brett". ;)
