How can I provide this option.
It has been requested that I put on a customers website, a click to 'talk' to a live person.

This does not mean chat it means talk via voice.
Please help if you can.

Thanks

Welcome to WebmasterWorld!
click to 'talk' to a live person.

Not trying to be funny (ok, maybe a little), but it's called the telephone (Sorry, I couldn't resist).

Actually what you're referring to is Voice Over IP (VoIP). This is the technology for talking over the internet. Last I heard the technology needed some work to overcome the tinny sound, echoes, and delays (remember how it used to be when making an overseas phone call, with the delays?). And even if it were up to snuff, a person's computer would have to be rigged up with a microphone, and not everyone's computer is set up that way.

Thus, chat software is the most far reaching solution.

However, there is a company that does the chat stuff that goes by the name you mentioned in your title. Cool stuff if you can get a good ROI that justifies $99/month. Their software allows you to watch people come into your site, shows you their IP, what SE referred them, how long they've been on your site, what pages they've seen, what page they are on. It's cool and a little eerie (because you're spying on your web site visitors in real time).

I don't know of any software that does Voice Over IP (VoIP). Maybe Yahoo IM does it. I haven't tried it. You may experiment with it in order to bolster your assessment that the technology has a way to go.

I have seen this option on a few websites. And what happens is when clicked on a mini chat window opens and you are able to talk to an operator using a chat program.

I think liveperson offer this.

Nope. Not liveperson. As I mentioned above, they do the Chat Software.
