I know that there are supposedly millions of new interent users per year but how does this affect our sites.
Have you compiled any annual statistics and if so what do they look like?
Based on my own experience, for independent publishers in some categories such as US travel and relocation the rise the number of users has been accommpanied by an even steeper rise in the number of sites vying for the click. Though my own sites have remained fairly constant in SE serps since '96 or '97, and the traffic has increased, with one or two exceptions the number of lead referrals have leveled off, particularly over the last 2 years. Online bookings generated by the sites have suffered even more. Even within my own sites, I offer much more competition for the click as other sites have come onboard to sponsor or buy ads.
