IE doesnt'work

After installing a link popularity demo IE doesn't run

I downloaded and installed a demo: software specifically designed to analyze inbound links on Google. The name of the program is LPA.

The Demo didn't work properly...

The problem is that now, I can not use IE any more.
It seems that for any URL I insert, it tries to connect to IP 127.0.01.

After that I get the usual message error: "It is not possible to view the page.... check internet option, etc,. etc."

With Opera browser, no problem!

What can I do?

I do not know what happened. The strange thing was that using Opera no problem and using IE no way.
I tried to uninstall the Google toolbar to verify if the problem was related to it: no way!

I tried another coonection with another provider and everything worked fine: so the problem is not IE!

I phoned to the first provider: they informed me that they changed the phone number to connect. I changed the phone number and now everything works fine with the first provider too.

My doubt is: why Opera worked and IE not?

I would like to give another try to that LPA program but I am worried to be banned by Google.

I am thinking about your post suggesting to leave similar program in the garage...

Dumb question: have you looked to see if proxy servers are enabled? That's what it sounds like.

No, proxy servers were not enabled.

My suspect is that the trouble could be connected to the Google toolbar.

I tried to use that Demo, and it didn't work fine. It worked, but in a strange way: I got a lot of error messages before getting the results; while trying to sort the results in PR order, the IE browser had a strange behavior: it seemed trying to open several windows to several sites, but getting only a white page with no URL address.
I was able to get two-three good sites to request link...

My impression is that "maybe" the Google toolbar "smelt" this behavior and banned that IP as a filter to IE.
Opera was going fine! In fact I posted my first message here using Opera.

I had exactly the same problem. See [webmasterworld.com...]

It's not the Google toolbar that's the problem. The software you installed completely messes up your IE configuration. And I *mean* completely!

IE uninstalls/reinstalls IE did not work, nor proxy overrides - nothing did!

The only way I got everything up and running again was to format my hard drive & reinstall everything from scratch.

IE has a way to rebuild all registry entries and file associations, even if the option from control panel fails or can't be found, follow the instructions at the bottom of this page, (change the number 5 to 6 if you using IE6)

just fist make sure you haven't blocked yourself in HOSTS. or some firewall that IE obeys where other browsers like opera do not obey

Sometimes what seems an useful tools can be very dangerous!
