I run a website that features various photos that people are remote linking to their own community website pages or personal pages. The drain to the bandwidth is massive, I need to find out how I can prevent them from remote linking.

The obvious options are to disable right clicking, or to disable the viewing of the source code in some manner. However, the client wants people to be able to at least save pictures off of the site.

I was told there was a way of adding something to your pages or directories that would not allow people to remote link images. I know that all these free hosting companies do this to prevent people from abusing bandwidth (by placing mp3s and images on there and just linking them somewhere else), so how can I?

Me too, the way I currently do it is rename the images periodically with a global change with a somewhat standardized image naming convention. But it isn't exactly labor free :(

If you are hosted on Apache, this thread [webmasterworld.com] may be useful to you.

Note that the third variant in message #15 does not work with modern browsers.
